Uproar in Yoga Day event in Maldives : Islamic fundamentalists attacked people doing yoga, President ordered investigation
Today the 8th International Yoga Day is being celebrated across the world. On this occasion, a yoga program was being organized at the Galolhu National Football Stadium in Male, the capital of Maldives. Meanwhile, a group of Islamic fundamentalists stormed the stadium. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has ordered an inquiry into the matter.
During the program, suddenly more than 100 people came running in the stadium carrying the flag and drove the people away. During this, the radicals broke the poster-banners and boards related to yoga installed in the stadium. Not only this, these people also attacked the people who were recording in the camera.
It can be seen in the video that the fundamentalists were carrying some placards and posters in their hands. Slogans were written on it against yoga. On this it was written in English – 'Yoga is Shirk' i.e. 'Doing yoga in Islam is a sin'.
So far 6 people have
been arrested in the case of arrest of 6 people. Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has ordered an inquiry into the matter. He said- Maldivian Police has started investigation into the incident which happened at Galolhu Stadium in the morning. This is a matter of serious concern, and those responsible will be brought before the law.
The program was organized by the
Indian Culture Center, this program was organized on behalf of the Indian Culture Center. High level diplomats and many government officials were also present in the program. As soon as the program started on Tuesday morning, the fundamentalists attacked. Earlier also there were threats to stop the program.
Maldives supported Yoga Day in
2014 When the United Nations (UN) recognized Yoga Day in 2014, 177 countries voted in its favor. The special thing is that Maldives was also included in these 177 countries, along with it it voted in favor of co-sponsoring the UN resolution.
This year's theme 'Yoga for Humanity'
is a theme for Yoga Day on 21st June every year. This year's theme has been chosen as 'Yoga for Humanity', which means Yoga for Humanity. According to the Ministry of AYUSH, the purpose of keeping this theme is to give relief to the people who have faced physical and mental stress during Kovid. Last year the theme of International Yoga Day 2021 was 'Yoga for Wellness'.
